A prototype for what’s believed to be the new Porsche 718 Boxster GTS has been spotted testing at the Nurburgring ahead of its reveal later this year.

At a quick glance, this prototype appears to be a standard Boxster equipped with the optional black-painted Sport Design package, but a few minor details give it away as a GTS testbed.

The interior of the protoype is filled with data logging equipment and the Boxster’s optional 20-inch wheels have also been equipped. Interestingly, the previous 981 Cayman’s Sport Design package appeared visually similar to the production Cayman GTS’ front and rear fascias, so we’re expecting that to be the case with this 718 model as well.

Similar to previous Porsche GTS models, the 718 Boxster GTS should boast active suspension with stiffer settings, a sportier exhaust system and a power bump to 375 or 380 horsepower. Both Porsche’s six-speed manual and highly regarded seven-speed PDK transmissions will be on the table as well.

The 2018 Porsche 718 Boxster GTS should be set to make its debut at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
