Lamborghini has a long history of giving their exotic Italian machinery very purposeful names, with the latest most likely to be Aventador. The automaker recently registered the Aventador name with the U.S. trademark office and if Lambo’s previous naming strategy is anything to follow, the full name should be Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4.

In the buildup to the launch of Lamborghini‘s new supercar and successor to the Murcielago, the Italian automaker has announced details of an all-new 6.5-liter V12 engine that will power the beast.

For those unaware, the Al-Thanis are the ruling family in Qatar with a huge supercar collection all in one shade: a very unique turquoise. The Al-Thanis are also the new owner of Harrods in London, where a couple of their supercars were recently sighted during the summer with boots on their wheels. Recently, residents near Harrods of London were complaining from an overwhelming amount of supercars turning that area into a race-track and now they have credit to their claim. Al-Thani’s Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-SV has been involved in a crash with a BMW M5.

The Panamera is an incredible performance machine and the execs running the show over at Volkswagen intend to exploit all that the 4-door Porsche has to offer. According to a new report by Autozeitung, VW is planning three new models based on the Panamera: one for each of its high-end brands. In other words, look for a Panamera-based Lamborghini, Bentley and Audi in the years to come.

You might not want to put down your deposit yet, but according to the latest rumors, Lamborghini will in fact built a successor to the LM002 SUV.

Chest-merkin users of the world have been dealt a hefty blow as Lamborghini announced that Murcielago production had ended, in anticipation of their upcoming 700 horsepower supercar.

Rather than posting unsubstantiated rumors like most other blogs do, we made an effort to confirm some interesting information regarding Lamborghini‘s supercar.

Amidst all the OEM built and sponsored vehicles at SEMA are a few privately owned gems, commissioned by their owners from some of the top aftermarket shops in the country. We stumbled across one such creation at the Mobil 1 booth.

Sometimes it’s nice to just sit back and admire someone else’s hard-earned money at work. SR Auto Group got their hands on #100 of 350 Lamborghini LP670-SVs out there in the world and added their own treatment. Can you really go wrong by going with a matte black treatment on one of the world’s rarest Italian supercars?

To go with the menacing flat black look, a set of 20-inch Pur Design One wheels were bolted onto the bull. The wheels aren’t overly flashy, and are probably a great option for those with a Lamborghini wanting something a little subtle yet sporty and classy. It sports a 12-spoke design with a concave style and this particular set was finished in a glossy black.

It’s not the orange and black Status design Murcielago, but it’s certainly an appropriately fearsome Halloween treat.

Lamborghini is opening up its first official dealers in Mexico, with locations in Mexico City and Monterrey. With Mexico getting wealthier, thanks to both new industry ( the world’s richest man is now Mexican) and some more illicit entrepreneurs setting up shop, the market for a Lamborghini showroom is now present.

Underground Racing’s Twin Turbo Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera is no stranger to internet fame. We reported when it broke the 250-mph park out at the Texas Mile and now we’re sad to report that the vehicle suffered a momentous wreck, rendering it totaled. Luckily the driver was able to walk out on his own safely.

It’s a no-brainer that testing your vehicle to excess of 250-mph speeds can be dangerous. But it’s great to see what the safety of the driver was still a priority when building this high horsepower exotic. The Gallardo did several flips before it came to a stop, and clearly started to flip at still a high rate of speed.

There are contradicting reports on what really caused the accident, but we think it’s not even worth arguing over – so long as someone figures it out on future high speed exotic builds. We’re just glad the driver walked away safely.

What’s worse than being wrong? Being almost right. We ran a news item on the upcoming Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera Spyder, aka the “Performance” , on Wednesday.

Lamborghini is apparently creating an open-air version of their Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera, to be known as the “Performance”.

Just in time for Halloween, Russian tuner Status Design Studio has released its Lamborghini Murcielago tuning package. The front of the car is full of carbon fiber components including a hood replacement, front splitter, mirrors and headlight eyelid covers. The trend continues onto the side skirts while the rear is replaced with an LP640 bumper. On each corner is a black and orange themed wheel, but we’re guessing they’ll let you change the pinstripe color to match your car, or let you opt out of it entirely.

A pair of Lamborghinis will compete in the 2011 American Le Mans Series, marking a return to the series for the raging bull brand after a disappointing season back in 2004 with the Murcielago R-GT. It wont be the top-dog Murcies trading paint, but rather the more appropriate Gallardo models competing in the GT Class, alongside road rivals from Porsche, Ferrari and of course the Chevy Corvettes.

After much anticipation, Lamborghini has finally released it’s Paris Auto Show debut – a carbon fiber concept vehicle dubbed the Sesto Element (Sixth Element). Weighing just 2,202-lbs, it is named after the sixth element in the periodic table of the elements – Carbon. And as mentioned, this is a serious carbon fiber machine, taking even the carbon fiber elements of such modern supercars as the McLaren MP4-12C and Lexus LFA to an entirely new level.

After news of the new Italian supercar concept leaked yesterday, Lamborghini has now revealed its carbon fiber technology concept ahead of its debut at the Paris Auto Show tomorrow. Weighing just 2,202-lbs, the Sixth Element (or Sesto Elemento as Lamborghini calls it) is named after the sixth element in the periodic table of the elements – Carbon. And as mentioned, this is a serious carbon fiber machine, taking even the carbon fiber elements of such modern supercars as the McLaren MP4-12C and Lexus LFA to an entirely new level.

Translated as the Sixth Element, this concept car shows just how far Lamborghini can take its light weight mandate, using carbon fiber for almost every aspect in order to reach a curb weight of just 2,200 lbs. And to make that number even more impressive, remember, there’s still a very big V10 engine located just behind the cockpit, enabling a 0-60 mph time of just 2.5 seconds and a top speed of 218-mph.

Lamborghini has released yet another teaser of their so-called “technology concept”, with this photo showcasing the carbon fiber technology that’s said to feature prominently in future Lamborghinis.

Combined with a 5.2-liter V10 engine that pumps out 562-hp, the Gallardo Blancpain Edition can rocket to 62 mph in just 3.4 seconds and on to a top speed of 199-mph.

Highlights on the model include Skorpius wheels with yellow brake calipers, a carbon fiber diffuser and mirror as well as a massive rear wing. The body of the car is then finished off in matte-black paint.

Inside the Gallardo Blancpain Edition gets copious amounts of black Alcantara with yellow accents, as well as plenty of carbon fiber trim items. Blaincpain logos appear prominently on the exterior of the car (including on the hood and rear spoiler) as well as on the seats.

Created to celebrate Blancpain’s sponsorship of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo gentlemen’s racing series, Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann presented the first Gallardo Blancpain Edition to Blaincpain CEO Marc A. Hayek at the conclusion of the 2010 Super Trofeo series at the “Piero Taruffi” circuit in Vallelunga.

Contrary to previous rumors and reports, Lamborghini will not unveil the successor to the Murciélago at the Paris Auto Show at the end of the month. That might leave you to think we’ll see the next generation Gallardo on the stand – but that would also be inaccurate.

Lamborghini continues to feed us bits and pieces of information ahead of the Paris Auto Show, with their recent shot of a ten cylinder powerplant. Many people assumed that it was the Murcielago replacement, known as the Jota, but the V10 arrangement threw off many observers.

Lamborghini has licensed out the brand to IKRA tool makers, who have launched a new series of garden gadgets called Tonio Lamborghini. All of these tools are electric powered (some have rechargeable cordless options). We’ve included a list after the jump with a brief overview:

In Monterey for the lead-up to the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and with hundreds, literally hundreds, of high-priced Italian exotics in town, you really need something special to stand out. And that’s just what I’m doing, cruising slowly through tourist-packed Cannery Row before heading out to burn premium octane at a far more rapid pace on California’s pacific coast highway in the newest Lamborghini, the LP570-4 Superleggera – painted bright yellow no less.

Lamborghini is embarking on a pragmatic approach to supercar building with its Murcielago successor, known as the Jota. Rather than focus on top speed, the Jota will emphasize weight reduction, handling and acceleration prowess over brute force.

Lamborghini released a teaser today, showing what appear to be velocity stack openings for a possibly V10 engine. While the Murcielago had a V12, the downsize in power could be part of Lamborghini’s rhetoric discussing the importance of power-to-weight ratios and the incoming use of carbon fiber in their cars.

“From the middle of the Eighties, the average weight of our cars has increased by 500 kg because of active and passive safety, comfort and emissions reduction issues, and this is something that we have to change,” the release stated, in a refreshingly honest critique of modern supercars.

The Jota is expected to debut at this years Paris Auto Show, and Autoguide will be on hand to cover the launch.
