Rick Ross Takes Product Placement To Next Level With "Aston Martin Music"

Hip-hop has picked up where Rock & Roll left off as America’s favorite music genre, and the automobile has assumed its rightful place within the culture, in the same way that it did during the heyday of The Beach Boys and other acts of the 1960’s.

If you think about it, rap music’s influence on the automobile is even more profound than rock. Where would Cadillac be today if it weren’t for the Escalade’s appearance in every single rap video? Rappers are taste makers, and while they certainly know what they like (how else do you explain donks), the newest single from Rick Ross and Drake, titled Aston Martin Music, seems a bit more contrived than the average overwrought music video.

The video shows Rick Ross smoking marijuana, letting his girlfriend take the rap for serious drug charges and relaxing in the beach with R&B singer Drake, a couple Aston Martins, and some female companions. We’re not sure if Aston Martin sanctioned the use of their cars or not, but Bugatti promised that no rappers would ever get their hands on a Veyron, and one of the worst MC’s in the game managed to get a brand new example.

Aston Martin LMP1 Car Sketch Revealed

The Automobile Club de l’Ouest, the sanctioning body behind the 24 Hours of LeMans race, announced a series of rule changes designed to make the gasoline powered LMP1 race cars more competitive with their diesel powered brethern. Currently, oil-burning offerings from Audi and Peugeot dominate the field, but in 2011, the auto makers will see a new challenger from British firm Aston Martin.

Like the Audi R10, the Aston Martin will be an open cockpit single seater, but engine details remain scarce. Only time will tell if the new regulations have leveled the playing field, but the diesels have done a good job of capturing the public’s imagination.

Aston Martin Teases One-77 In Upcoming Test Drive Unlimited 2 Video Game

The Test Drive video game/driving simulator series is quite possibly one of the oldest out there. Yes, long before Gran Turismo or Forza Motorsport even existed; hell long before the original Playstation or Xbox were out there was Test Drive. It may not carry the same prestige as our console counterparts, but Test Drive Unlimited 2 is promising to deliver some groundbreaking virtual driving experiences.

So much like Mercedes-Benz is offering enthusiasts the ability to drive an SLS AMG virtually and in real life, the folks at Atari and Eden Games would like to get you behind the wheel of the Aston Martin One-77 supercar. But being the ultimate sports car from Aston Martin and a limited production of just 77, you’ll likely just have to settle for the virtual experience.

A trailer highlighting the Aston Martin One-77 in the upcoming Test Drive Unlimited 2 video game has just been released. It may not be the exact thrill we really want, but I guess we have to take what we can get. Besides, there’s probably a much better chance Test Drive Unlimited 2 comes out when they say it will in September of 2010.

Audi Sweeps the Podium at the 2010 24 Hours of Le Mans

When the clock struck 12 today at Le Circuit de La Sarthe, Audi took home a stunning sweep of the podium at this year’s running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. With the Peugeot 908’s showing considerably more pace during qualifying, not even Audi Motorsports boss Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich would have predicted a 1-2-3 finish for their R15 TDI diesel-powered LMP1 machines.

According to Ullrich, “At the beginning it was a little unlucky for us but at the end it all worked fine. It’s a great reward for all the work that everyone [at Audi Motorsports] has done. I think this has to be the hardest Le Mans we’ve ever done.”

Dr. Ullrich was congratulated by his counterpart at Peugeot, Director of Motorsport Olivier Quesnel, straight after the race. Ullrich returned the favor by paying tribute to Audi’s arch rival Peugeot by remarking on the camararderie between the two teams. “In sport when someone wins then someone else loses, but when the loser comes and congratulates the winner it is all very sporting. That is what we did last year and that’s what Peugeot has done this year. It has been a fantastic battle, we’ve invited the Peugeot guys to a party tonight and we hope that  they will all come”.

For Audi this is their 9th victory at Le Mans, tying them with Ferrari as the second winningest team in history ( Porsche having 16 wins to their name). The winning #9 Audi, driven by Mike Rockenfeller, Romain Dumas and Timo Bernhard, also set a new distance record by completing 397 laps at an average speed of 225.228 km/h.

This was also Michelin’s 19th Le Mans victory and the 27th time the race has been won by a German car.

Aston Martin V12 Vantage Taunts Us With Awesomeness [video]

It’s here. Yes, the Aston Martin V12 Vantage has been confirmed for North America and to help promote the car (as though there was any need), the British automaker has released a short video of the super sports car. For those who don’t know, the V12 Vantage takes the already impressive V8 Vantage and ups the power significantly thanks to a 5.9-liter V12 engine borrowed from some of the other Aston models. In the Vantage it makes 510-hp and 420 ft-lbs of torque. That’s good for a 0-60 mph time of 4.1 seconds and a 190-mph top speed. Plus, the V12 Vantage gets other goodies like a vented hood. Oh, and poseurs need not apply as the big dog V12 comes exclusively with a 6-speed manual transmission.

In the U.S., buyers can opt for a standard V12 Vantage priced at $179,995, or choose the “murdered out” limited edition Carbon Black model for $194,995.

The video (found after the jump) features plenty of shots of the car, and there’s even some great race footage on a track-prepped model. Aston stands behind its products and a mostly stock V12 Vantage placed first in the SP8 class at the Nürburgring 24 race in both 2008 and 2009.

Nissan GT-R Inherits Win at Silverstone in FIA GT1 World Championship:

What started out as a dominant performance by Aston Martin, crossing the finish line 1-2 during Round 2 of the FIA GT1 World Championship at Silverstone, unraveled after the race and promoted third place finisher Jamie Campbell-Walter and Warren Hughes in the Sumo Power Nissan GT-R to the top spot on the podium.

First came the news that the the #9 Hexis Racing DB9 of Frederic Makowiecki and Thomas Accary had covered more than three laps before serving a drive-through penalty, promoting Sumo Power to 2nd place. Then an hour later came the news that #7 Aston Martin of team Young Driver was being excluded for excessive plank wear. Post-race inspection showed that a few millimeters too much had been shaved off the #7 DB9’s belly plank from running too aggressively over the corner rumble strips. The Young Driver AMR team is appealing this ruling, but for now at least the official race victory belongs to Sumo Power‘s Campbell-Walter and Hughes.

This may not be the way Nissan or Sumo Power GT wanted to win their first race in the FIA GT1 World Championship, but it certainly does not take anything away from the impressive pace the Sumo Power GT-Rs displayed throughout the Silverstone weekend. Meanwhile, the Swiss Racing Team GT-Rs couldn’t quite match the pace of the Sumo Power Nissans, the #4 SRT GT-R finishing 9th and the #3 GT-R finishing 17th.

It will be interesting to see how the Aston Martin appeal unfolds in the days and weeks before Round 3 of the Championship, May 21-23 at Brno in the Czech Republic. For updates on the series and for live video feeds from each race, visit the official FIA GT1 website at http://www.gt1world.com

Aston Martin Rapide to Compete in Nrburgring 24 Hour Race

For the fifth year in a row Aston Martin will take part in the annual Nürburgring 24 Hour endurance race, but for 2010 the team’s entry will have four-doors. That’s right, the all-new Rapide sedan will be stripped down to its bare essentials to compete in a class for mostly stock vehicles. Aston says more details on the car will be released in the coming weeks, but that major modifications are to be limited to a re-turned suspension, safety gear and racing slick tires.

The past two years, Aston has competed in the SP8 class for and won the past two years, running a V12 Vantage last year.

“The Rapide has the capability to carry four people in comfort but first and foremost it is a sports car and we will subject it to the same tests we would our other sports cars,” said CEO Dr. Ulrich Bez, who will once again get behind the wheel to compete, along with a tea of factory drivers.

The Nürburgring 24 Hour Race takes place from May 15th to 16th and we’ll be sure to keep an eye on the action.
