Mopar brings a trio of off-road concepts to SEMA 2022, including a classic Jeep with an EV crate motor.

To celebrate 85 years of service, Mopar is bringing three concepts to the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas this week. A pair of Ram pickups and an all-electric classic Jeep showcase the breadth of the company’s accessory catalog, ranging from mild to wild.

Jeep CJ Surge Concept

The Jeep CJ Surge concept offers up the most changes, dropping the old ICE drivetrain in favor of an electric crate motor. The 200-kW (268 horsepower), 400-volt system mounts directly to the frame by way of custom solid motor mounts. A two-range transfer case with selectable gearing gets the power to all four 35-inch BFGoodrich A/T tires. Those tires wrap 18-inch Black Rhino Solid wheels, and get more room to breathe with a 2.0-inch lift kit. Jeep Performance Parts Dana 44 crate axles round out the drivetrain upgrades.

Visually, the CJ Surge stands apart with Copper Canyon exterior paint, Surf Blue accents on those afore-mentioned wheels, and concept fender flares. Mopar has also shaved two inches off the windshield, and fitted a Warn winch, skid plates, and concept rock rails. Inside are custom seats on concept seat risers, featuring Surf Blue stitching and houndstooth inserts.

Ram 1500 TRX Gold Shot Concept

The most powerful production pickup serves as the base for the next Mopar concept. The company didn’t increase power here—frankly, it didn’t need to—but instead modified the TRX for improved functionality. The goal here is the ultimate motorcross hauler, capable of carrying two bikes to the track with the utmost ease—and speed.

Black Rhino Chamber wheels sit at all four corners here, with even larger 37-inch A/T tires. Out back, a Mopar bed step provides one-touch easy access into the bed, which features a spray-in bedliner from Mopar as well. The RamBar sits behind the cabin, featuring a pair of 14-inch concept LED lights from TYRI. These rectangular units can blast up to 4,300 lumens out, ensuring a bright work space long after the sun has set.

Exterior changes include the yellow and black side graphics, a pair of five-inch exhaust tips, Mopar rock rails, and custom metal skid plates. The latter are laser-etched with the Mopar logo, and the front item increases the approach angle by 2.3 degrees, now 32.5 degrees.

Inside, the TRX interior sees a blast of color-matched yellow trim and leather stripes on its sports seats. Never too fancy, the Gold Shot borrows the vinyl floor from the Ram 1500 Tradesman work truck, all in the name of easy cleaning.

Ram 1500 Backcountry X Concept

The final Ram concept approaches functionality from a different angle. The Backcountry X takes the standard RamBox storage system and augments it with a concept extension, dubbed RamPack. These bedside extensions mimic the look of a bed cap, but add 12.3 cubic feet of covered storage, all accessible via the carbon-fiber side hatches. Custom shelves allow for easy access, with tie-down loops to secure items as well.

The rhyming RamRack takes the telescoping storage-rack system of last year’s Ram 1500 Outdoorsman concept and adds additional Thule cross rails at the top of the bed. In addition, more TYRI LED lights at all bed corners keep the space amply illuminated. There’s even a Center High Mount Stop Light (CHMSL) atop the bars, because safety first. Mopar has dropped in a set of Rockler woodworking hardware, plus conversion charts and an angle finder.

Like the CJ Surge, the Backcountry X features a 2.0-inch lift; like the Gold Shot, it features 37-inch tires, though these ones wrap around 20-inch wheels. A Mopar grille guard gives it the necessary protection up front, while Mopar lights shine the way forward. Inside, the Backcountry X features dark green seats with orange contrast stitching, Mopar all-weather floor mats, and a concept RamVac on-board vacuum.

SEMA 2022 will run from November 1–4, in Las Vegas.
