2019 Dodge Charger Gets a Fresh Face and New Equipment
The 2019 Dodge Charger has received a fresh new face and new equipment to keep customers interested in the aging four-door.
Among the changes is the addition of a new performance-focused Charger GT to the lineup. The Charger GT gives customers performance looks and equipment, including a performance hood, a spoiler, standard performance suspension and a 3.07 rear axle ratio, with the less expensive 300 hp 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine. Also standard on these models will be Houndstooth cloth, an 8.4-inch Uconnect screen with Performance Pages and new 20-inch wheels.
The 5.7-liter HEMI V8 powered Charger R/T gets much of the same equipment as the Charger GT, including the performance hood, spoiler, performance suspension, Houndstooth cloth seats, 8.4-inch UConnect screen with Performance Pages, and 20-inch wheels. All Charger R/T models will get a 2.62 rear axle ratio as well.
Mopar fans will be happy to hear the Charger R/T Scat Pack has returned for 2019. It retains the 485 hp 6.4-liter HEMI V8, but gets new equipment in the way of Launch Assist and burnout-friendly Line Lock. The Launch Assist system is Dodge’s take on launch control, while Line Lock holds the front wheels and allows for easy burnouts.

The Charger R/T Scat Pack bridges the gap to the 2019 Hellcat, which has gotten a fairly long list of new equipment. The 707 hp 6.2-liter V8 returns and is joined by Launch Assist and Line Lock, along with the Torque Reserve function from the Challenger Demon. Torque Reserve uses a bypass valve to prefill the supercharger and manages fuel flow and engine spark, allowing the driver to load up the engine from a standstill and unleash the stored torque for instant acceleration. The Demon’s After Run Chiller, which cools the supercharger once the engine is shut off, has also been applied to the Hellcat for 2019.
Other changes made to the 2019 Charger Hellcat include the addition of a new Satin Black hood, 20-inch forged aluminum gold wheels and a new Alcantara interior package.
Rounding out the revised lineup for 2019 is the Charger SXT and SXT AWD. Just as before, both of these models receive the 300 hp 3.6-liter V6 engine. Changes include new 19- or 20-inch wheels for the Blacktop Package and a new Cold Weather Package for the AWD model, which adds a heated steering wheel and heated cloth driver and passenger seats. Customers can also add a Caramel Napa Leather interior to the package for a fee.
Available exterior colors for all 2019 Dodge Chargers include B5 Blue, Destroyer Grey, F8 Green, Go Mango, Granite Crystal, IndiGo Blue, Maximum Steel, Octane Red, Pitch Black, Plum Crazy, TorRed, Triple Nickel and White Knuckle.
Dodge says dealer orders for the 2019 Charger will open later this month. First deliveries are scheduled for the third quarter of 2018. We’ve reached out to Dodge for pricing and will update our story once we hear back.
