Next-Gen Porsche 911 GT3 Rumored to Go Turbo

The 992-generation Porsche 911 GT3 will finally succumb to forced induction.

According to a report from MOTOR, the next-generation Porsche 911 GT3 will be powered by a turbocharged, flat-six engine generating around 550 horsepower. Currently the Porsche 911 GT3 uses a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six engine for 500 hp, which means the turbocharged mill will add quite a bit of performance. If the rumors are true, expect an eight-speed PDK mated to the turbocharged engine.

To deal with the additional weight of the forced induction system, Porsche will turn to high-strength, lightweight materials to help offset those gains. Don’t be surprised to see an active aerodynamic system too.

Porsche purists might be disappointed to hear about the switch to a turbocharged engine over naturally aspirated, but at least the GT3 isn’t going the way of becoming a hybrid. The 911, however, will eventually introduce a hybrid variant that could debut as a plug-in model in 2023.

The 992 Porsche 911 is expected to debut late this year. For now, we get to look forward to the updated 911 GT3 RS at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show next month.
