Cayman E-volution Previews Porsche's Electric Future
Porsche previewed its electric future with the debut of the Cayman E-volution at the Electric Vehicle Symposium in Germany this weekend.
The Cayman E-volution is an electric take on the mid-engine sports car with a 0-60 time of 3.3 seconds and total range of 200 km (124 miles). The automaker says the EV concept won’t go into series production, but instead gives consumers “an early indication of just how sporty Porsche believes e-mobility can be.”The most important aspect of the Cayman E-volution is its 800-volt fast-charging capabilities, which the automaker is simply referring to as “Porsche Turbo Charging.”

Porsche says the E-volution is also “a hint of what is to come in 2019,” when the production version of the Porsche Mission E sedan will arrive. Porsche Turbo Charging will enable the Mission-E to charge its batteries from flat to 80 percent capacity in about 15 minutes. The Porsche Turbo Charging network is “particularly suitable for use in areas where the distribution system is subject to power limitations,” and will be used “as a supplement to high-power fast charging network with medium voltage connection.” Porsche also said the Mission E will have a range of over 500 km (310 miles) when it arrives in two years’ time.
