2018 Volkswagen Jetta Spied Testing for the First Time

Spy photographers have caught the first pictures of the next-generation Volkswagen Jetta testing in the Southwest.

We learned earlier this year that production of the new Jetta was to begin before the end of 2017, but the new car is otherwise shrouded in mystery.

It has long been predicted that the Mk7 Jetta would resemble the 2014 Lamando Concept from China, and it looks like those predictions were right. Although it’s hard to tell just what this new car looks like because of the camouflage, its sloped roofline and wide stance are highly reminiscent of that concept.

Predictions also had the next-gen Jetta being based on VW’s hard-working MQB platform, like the Mk7 Golf. That would give this car access to all of the same engines as the Golf. A 2.0-liter turbo is expected to be the most popular engine.

The arrival of the new Jetta will be exciting news for VW of America since the Jetta has long been a favorite in the region. The new 2019 Volkswagen Jetta will debut at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show.

The 2.0L turbo will probably be the least popular engine only on the GLI like it is now. The 1.4L turbo and 1.8L turbo will most likely be the volume engines. Right now Jettas are cheaper than Golfs, are they going to keep it big and cheap or raise the price significantly?

The same is here. VW bring the TDI's again to NA. If GM's Cruze can do it legally, why can't VW?

Agreed! TDI diesel was amazing! I made the mistake of selling my 2012 Golf TDI back to VW and got 2017 Jetta SEL with the buyback money. What an awful mistake! Jetta TSI 1.8T is so lame compared to the power of the 2.0 TDI. The current 2011-2017 Jetta MK6 is so crappy and cheap inside, feels like a Corolla. Volkswagen has to relaunch the TDI eventually, it was awesome.
