Spy photographers have once again caught the Volkswagen Golf R’s facelift on camera.

Last month we spotted the Volkswagen Golf R facelift testing in the Austrian Alps and now the German automaker has taken it on the Nurburgring to fine tune the changes. A bit of camouflage has been shed up front, giving us a better look at the newly designed front bumper, while this particular prototype has camouflage in the rear, suggesting that there might be a new rear bumper.

Expect changes to the front grille, headlights and bumpers as part of the facelift, although it’s still unclear if a performance upgrade is in the cards. With the newly released Focus RS and upcoming Honda Civic Type R boasting impressive power numbers, it’s likely Volkswagen will have a response to those competitors.

The facelift will apply to all Golf models in the lineup but expect the R to have a more aggressive design. We should see the facelifted Golf in its entirety this fall.
