Bentley Stuffs Even More Power Into Upgraded Flying Spur V8 S
Bentley has unveiled a new Flying Spur V8 S with more power and a host of performance upgrades.
The luxury sedan’s 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 now outputs 521 horsepower (a 21-hp bump) and 502 pound-feet of torque, which can propel the Flying Spur to 62 mph in 4.9 seconds, 0.3 seconds faster the the standard V8 model. Top speed is limited to 190 mph.
Bentley says the performance increase doesn’t affect fuel economy, which is rated at 25.9 mpg. Like other Bentleys, the Flying Spur V8 S can deactivate four of the engine’s cylinders under light loads to increase efficiency.
The new V8 S model, which slots between the regular V8 and W12 models in the Flying Spur lineup, also gets a revised suspension that promises a “more focused, precise driving experience.” Combined with tweaks to the engine, different transmission mapping and better use of engine braking, this Flying Spur should be more responsive and much sportier. Power is sent to all four wheels, but has a 40:60 rear bias.

Bentley has also retuned the electronic stability control to allow more wheel slippage at higher speeds, so the system won’t intervene so quickly during a spirited drive. Even with all the performance-focused suspension upgrades, Bentley says the sedan’s limo-like ride won’t be affected.
The new model also gets slightly different styling with a black radiator grille and rear diffuser, along with a new grille insert.
The Bentley Flying Spur V8 S will make its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show.
