McLaren P1 Production Comes to an End
Production for the McLaren P1, one of the world’s most crazy hypercars, has come to an end.
Only 375 units were made, and the final P1 rolled off the production line with a special pearlescent orange paint that pays homage to the final McLaren F1 road car. The final P1 also gets other unique styling cues inspired by the last F1.
A single P1 takes 800 hours to build and more than 105 people are involved in the process. The most popular color for P1 owners was Volcano Yellow, and the paint process can take up to five days, depending on the finish.

P1 production began in the summer of 2013 and can really be credited with helping to usher in a new era of hybrid hypercars. Powered by a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 and an electric motor, the P1 cranked out 903 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque and had a dry weight of just 3,197 pounds. The P1 can accelerate from zero to 62 mph in just 2.8 seconds and top speed is limited to 217 mph.
McLaren celebrated by releasing a photo of the first production P1 finished in an ice silver paint next to the final P1 in orange. After this first model, each subsequent P1 was custom built to the exact specifications of its owner, and McLaren says no two P1s are the same.
With production of the P1 now completed, McLaren will focus on building the limited-edition P1 GTR, a track-only race car with 986 horsepower due in early 2016.
