McLaren has unveiled a special limited edition 650S exclusively for customers in the Middle East called the 650S Spider Al Sahara 79 by MSO (McLaren Special Operations).

Unveiled at the Dubai Motor Show, the bespoke 650S has a pearlescent white gold paint. Al Sahara is Arabic for “desert,” and the car’s design has been inspired by the “golden sands which form such a distinctive part of the Middle Eastern landscape,” McLaren said in a press release.

MSO achieved this special luster by adding 24-karat gold particles into the paint. The 79 in the car’s name stands for gold’s atomic number on the periodic table.

The car also gets special forged alloy wheels finished in gloss black, and uses carbon fiber for the side intakes, front splitter and rear diffuser. Inside, the 650S has an almond white upholstery with the special Al Sahara paint panels throughout the dashboard. A gold finish has also been applied to the switchgear and heating vents.

Power for the special 650S comes from a mid-mounted 3.8-liter twin turbo V8 cranking out 641 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque. Pricing starts at 1,456,308 AED, or US$396,517.
