VW Updates Diesel Information Site With VIN Lookup Tool
Volkswagen owners can now look up their vehicle by VIN to see if they own a cheating diesel model.
Although the German automaker hasn’t announced an official recall or fix for the emissions issue, Volkswagen has updated its online database so that owners can determine whether they should be prepared. A definitive count of vehicles affected in the U.S. also hasn’t been announced, but there are at least 480,000 vehicles from Volkswagen and Audi equipped with the four-cylinder diesel engine with a defeat device.

Confirmed affected models include the 2009-2015 Volkswagen Jetta TDI, 2009-2014 Volkswagen Jetta SportWagen TDI, 2010-2015 Volkswagen Golf TDI, 2015 Volkswagen Golf SportWagen TDI, 2012-2015 Volkswagen Beetle TDI and Volkswagen Beetle Convertible TDI and the 2012-2015 Volkswagen Passat TDI.
Still, owners currently do not need to take any action at this time and Volkswagen will begin notifying customers when a remedy is in place. It has been more than a month since Volkswagen first admitted to cheating on EPA diesel emissions tests on September 18 and since then, numerous executives have been suspended while the company’s CEO Martin Winterkorn has stepped down from his position.
