The Aventador SV has proven just how potent it is.

Just as the Nurburgring 24 Hour race rages on, Lamborghini has released a video showing off its latest exotic breaking the seven-minute barrier around the world famous track.

The Lamborghini Aventador SV clocked in an astonishingly quick lap time of 6:59.73 during development testing for the Pirelli P Zero Corsa tire, making the sports car one of three road legal machines to complete the lap faster than seven minutes.

Currently the Radical SR8 LM (which is not street legal in the US) holds the track record, followed by the Porsche 918 Spyder, which did it in 6:57 and is the fastest production car on the ‘Ring.

McLaren has publicly stated that its P1 hybrid is capable of lapping Nurburgring in under seven minutes, but hasn’t confirmed details or released a video as proof.

The Lamborghini Aventador SV was first introduced at this year’s Geneva Motor Show and is powered by a 6.5-liter V12 engine with 750 hp, capable of accelerating from 0-62 mph in 2.8 seconds. It also is about 110 lbs lighter than the standard Aventador and receives numerous aerodynamic upgrades including a large three-way adjustable rear wing.
