The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has named the 2016 Kia Sorento a Top Safety Pick.

Redesigned for 2016, the Sorento earned top honors thanks to its improved performance in the small overlap crash test, taking its rating from poor to good. Information taken from the crash test dummy indicates a low risk of injury in this type of small overlap collision, unlike the previous Sorento which showed a high likelihood of serious injury.

All of the other crash tests, including the front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests yielded good results for the Sorento. Thanks to its optional forward collision alert, a basic rating was given to the Sorento for front crash prevention.
