Chrysler Recalls Almost 900,000 SUVs for Brake Repairs
Chrysler has announced a recall of nearly 900,000 SUVs in order to better protect each vehicle’s brake booster from corrosion.
In total 867,795 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango SUVs from the 2011 to 2014 model years are being called back so dealerships can install a new shield over the brake booster, thereby protecting the units from excessive weather damage and corrosion.
The recall comes in response to complaints of overly-firm brake pedals by owners.
According to a release by Chrysler, “The investigation discovered certain vehicles have brake boosters with small crimp joints; and these joints may exhibit corrosion when exposed to water. Should water enter the boosters through corroded joints – a previously unseen occurrence – brake function may be compromised if the water freezes.”

Chrysler says it is aware of one accident related to the issue, but no injuries.
The precaution is just the latest big number recall by an automaker with General Motors currently wrapped up in a controversy in regards to the recall of 2.59 million vehicles over faulty ignition switches.
