Mitsubishi to Publish Real-World MPG Numbers
Mitsubishi plans on publishing fuel economy numbers that are derived in the real world by customers, rather than just official estimates.
The plan will start with the plug-in hybrid version of the Outlander, which is officially rated at 148 mpg in worldwide markets. Electric cars in particular can be hard to assign a fuel economy number to, because it depends on each individual owners charging habits and driving habits. In an effort to be transparent, Managing Director of Mitsubishi UK says that “customers came back saying it only did 90mpg. It’s crazy that people think that’s bad, but it’s all relative to the official figure.”
The brand will take feedback from customers, and put together an information chart where prospective customers can compare the official numbers to what the other drivers claim. “We’d like to do a graph, maybe just a figure, starting with the PHEV but then rolling it out to other cars. It would come from customer information,” said Bradley.
Considering Mitsubishi is pushing its plug-in hybrid portfolio and plans to install one of the electrified powertrains into every one of its vehicles, these real-world numbers will benefit consumers immensely.
