Back at the 2010 Paris Motor Show, Smart unveiled a collection of electric urban mobility products, with the fortwo electric car and ebike already becoming a reality. Next on its list will be the escooter, launching in 2014.

The Smart ebike has raised some eyebrows since its debut, but the fully electric escooter makes more sense as a viable form of transportation. Just like the ebike, the Smart escooter will be available to customers that don’t have a driver’s license yet.

“With this step, we are adding a further important component to our smart mobility concept for urban mobility in the future,” Mercedes exec Joachim Schmidt said.

Set to premiere within the next two years, Smart also announced that the design of the escooter study is being developed and refined further. It appears that Smart’s goal for the immediate future is to continue investing into electric technology, branding itself as a company focused on zero-emissions transportation.
