The sales have been tallied and the numbers are finally in. The list of the Top 10 best selling vehicles in the U.S. has now been released lots of familiar faces and a few surprises – starting with number 10, the Chevrolet Cruze. Sales for the new compact sedan total 231,732 units for the first full year on sale, with the Cruze launching late in 2010 and amassing just 24,495 sales in a short period of time then.

In 9th place is the Honda Accord. A familiar site on this list, the Accord managed just 235,625 total sales in 2011, down 16.6 percent from 282,530 units. Last year it placed 4th.

Like the Accord, sales of the Toyota Corolla were also down in 2011, dropping by almost 10 percent to 235,625 units, down from 266,082 units the year before. As a result, it slides from 5th place to 8th.

One of the biggest jumps goes to the RAM pickup brand. Selling a total of 244,763 trucks in 2011, sales were up 22.6 percent in 2011, helping it move from 10th to 7th place.

2011 Ford Fusion: For maximum performance, the Fusion Sport features a 3.5-liter V-6 that has 263 horsepower and 249 ft.-lb. of torque delivered with regular unleaded fuel. (06/14/2010)

Ford’s mid-size Fusion sedan might not sell in quite the volume that the Accord does, but with a solid increase of 13 percent for a total of 248,067 units sold in 2011 it sits in 6th place and is one of four mid-size sedans on the Top 10 list.

2012 Ford Escape: The 2012 Ford Escape delivers sporty performance and great fuel economy with SUV capability. (06/20/2011)

The second of three Fords on the list and the one with the biggest gain of the bunch, the Escape compact crossover sits at 5th spot rising an incredible 33.1 percent in 2011 for a total of 254,293 units sold. Perhaps most impressive is that this vehicle is at the end of its life cycle.

With a solid gain of 17 percent over the previous year, Nissan sold 268,981 Altimas in 2011 making it the fourth best selling model in America last year and the second best selling car.

Showing just how popular the Camry is, even with a nearly six percent sales slump in 2011 Toyota managed to move 308,510 units. The result is that it remains the best selling car in America.

2012 Chevrolet Silverado LT Extended Cab Pickup. (08/29/2011)

Up 12.2 percent on the year, sales of the Chevrolet Silverado pickup sit at 415,130 units for 2011, besting the RAM by a significant margin, but not nearly enough to compete with number one…

DALLAS, TX. September 22, 2010 – The Ford F-150, America's top-selling truck for 33 years, is the first and only pickup available with a twin turbocharged, direct-injected gasoline truck engine. Rated at 365-horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque, the EcoBoost F-150 has a class leading towing rating of 11,300 lbs. F-150's four new engines help…

And the number one vehicle in America, by volume, for the 34th consecutive year is the Ford F Series truck. With an impressive 10.7 percent gain over 2010, the F-Series has a commanding lead, selling 584,917 units this past year, nearly double that of the best selling car.

Pretty much the norm except for Honda. Hopefully they can bounce back next year.

4 of the top 10 vehicles sold are trucks or cross over. The top 2 are trucks. What does it say about conservation and practicality when 3 of the 4 are pickups. They must be compensating for something.
