Lexus LM350 and LM300h Names Reserved in the US
Lexus has filed to trademark the LM350 and LM300h names with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
The Japanese luxury brand appears to have a new model on the way, with this filing serving as proof of its interest in the ‘LM’ nameplate in the US. Lexus also recently moved to trademark the LM350 and LM300h names in the Philippines, so whatever this new vehicle is, it seems as though it will be offered outside of the US as well.
In Lexus’ lineup, the letters in its alphanumeric naming convention actually mean something. The Lexus ‘LS’, for example, stands for ‘Luxury Sedan’, while the ‘UX’ stands for ‘Urban Crossover’. It’s reasonable to assume the ‘L’ in ‘LM’ stands for ‘Luxury’, then, but we’re left guessing as to what the ‘M’ could stand for.

As for the numerical portion of the name, that always refers to the powertrain setup. Other ‘350’ badged Lexus vehicles are powered by the automaker’s 3.5-liter V6 engine, while ‘300h’ vehicles receive its 2.5-liter engine and hybrid system. If the ‘LM’ will indeed feature a V6, that likely means it’s on the larger side – so it could be a crossover or SUV.
The Lexus LM could be the automaker’s new forthcoming flagship crossover that was previewed by the LF-1 Limitless Concept earlier this year. We’ll have to wait and see what Lexus has in store for this nameplate, though, so stay tuned for more information.
