2020 Ram HD Steps Out for the Camera for the First Time

The 2020 Ram HD has taken one giant step toward becoming reality, with spy photographers finally catching a development mule testing on Michigan roads.

Intel suggests the next-generation Ram 1500 and Ram HD are currently being developed alongside one another, but the HD program has been pushed back by one year to help speed up the development cycle of the Ram 1500. As such, Ram HD mules have been an extremely rare sight – until now, that is.

What’s in store for the next-generation of Ram HD pickups is still a mystery, but there are rumors the 5.7-liter HEMI V8 could be dropped from the engine lineup – leaving the 6.4-liter HEMI as the sole gas engine on offer. The 6.7-liter Cummins inline-six diesel may be in for a major boost in output to match the likes of Ford and Chevy, which both offer HD diesel trucks with over 900 lb-ft of torque. Could this be a 1,000 lb-ft pickup? FCA’s been known to deliver when it comes to power and torque.

As for the rest of the truck, look to our previous spy photos of the 2019 Ram 1500 and its interior for an idea of what to expect. Those images revealed the exterior would adopt a more modern look that does away with the Dodge-era crosshair grille, while the cabin would also go the modern route with a large Tesla-style center display and a partial digital dash.

The next-generation Ram 1500 is likely slated for a debut sometime next year, with the HD poised for a much later debut sometime in 2019.

No problems with my 16 ram 3500 and I beat it like a rental. 6.7 Cummins. 50000km and only regular maintenance so far. Wouldn't buy anything else. Oilfield tested. I tow everything.
