The Alfa Romeo Giulia has received the highest-possible IIHS Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

In order to receive a Top Safety Pick+ rating, a vehicle must achieve the best possible score of ‘good’in the IIHS’ five crashworthiness tests, which include small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints. The vehicle must also have received an ‘advanced’ or ‘superior’ rating for its front crash prevention system and an ‘acceptable’ or ‘good’ headlight rating.

The IIHS says Giulia models built after May 2017 meet the IIHS’ Top Safety Pick+ criteria. Alfa Romeo reinforced the Giulia’s front-end structure, door hinge pillar and door sill at that time, improving occupant protection in small and moderate overlap front crashes. Alfa also changed the head restraints, modified the front crash prevention system and adjusted the direction of headlights in order to achieve the coveted safety designation.

“The Giulia represents the height of Alfa Romeo engineering and technology so no effort was spared when it came to the vehicle’s performance and safety features,” said Alfa Romeo boss Reid Bigland. “We’re honored to receive this award from IIHS as it shows our commitment to creating state-of-the-art vehicles.”
