The Latest Awesome Audi Concept Isn't Heading to Production

Audi Sport has no plans of creating unique models.

Except for the Audi R8, Audi Sport models will share bodywork with existing vehicles, which means it won’t follow in AMG’s footsteps to produce unique cars like the AMG GT. Unfortunately that means the Audi Sport Quattro Concept that debuted in 2013 isn’t getting the green light for production, despite previous rumors.

Former Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann has taken the helm at Audi Sport and recently told Car and Driver his priorities are elsewhere. “It’s a nice dream, but I think we have so much in front of us that the most important thing is to get the lineup where we need it,” he said in reference to the Audi Sport Quattro Concept. “I think there is the opportunity for a very limited car, but this is not my top priority at the moment.”

Instead, expect to see more Audi Sport models in the future, including RS versions of existing crossovers and SUVs. In the future, Audi Sport will also focus on further differentiating its RS models from the S versions developed by Audi.

As for the good news, there’s a possibility the next-generation RS6 wagon could make its way to the U.S. One insider says the German automaker is looking into the possibility of offering the high-performance wagon in the U.S., but it wouldn’t happen for a while. The new RS6 isn’t expected to arrive in Europe before 2019.
