Alfa Romeo might return to F1 racing with its own team.

Rather than collaborating with an existing team, comments from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) CEO Sergio Marchionne suggest that the brand would return as its own team. “Alfa Romeo are capable of making their own chassis, just as they are capable of making engines,” he told Italy’s Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper.

Marchionne first brought up the idea of an Alfa Romeo team back in December of 2015, as he believes it’s important for the brand to be involved in high-level racing.

“For Alfa Romeo to emphasize themselves as a sporting brand they can and should consider the possibility of returning to race in Formula One. How? Probably in collaboration with Ferrari,” said Marchionne.

Alfa Romeo has a long history in F1, from winning the sport’s first two championships in 1950 and 1951, to supplying engines in the 1960s and 1970s. The brand withdrew from F1 back in 1985.

That'd be cool, but why don't they "return" to the market with more product? Let's get that Giulia to go on sale first.
