Brand fans might already know that the MINI Takes The States 2012 (MTTS) event is coming soon this summer, but what they might not know is there will be a chance to do something unique and entirely unrelated to cars.

Michael Johnston, a paratriathlete and U.S. Paralympic Team hopeful, is inviting fans to train with him as part of the MTTS event this year. Participants can register to run 5K with him or take a 10-mile bike ride during a single session in one of four locations. Aside from training, Johnston will be along for the rally, which runs from New York to Los Angeles, because the company named the U.S. Paralympic Team as its charitable partner for this year’s event.

“With MTTS, we work hard to deliver a variety of truly exceptional experiences that connect with the diverse MINI owner community and let them take away a memory that they’ll talk about for years to come,” said Jim McDowell, vice president MINI USA. “The Michael Johnston Challenges offer MTTS participants a personal connection to the Olympic Games and a chance to enjoy a healthy activity they love with an inspirational athlete. It’s a great example of how this event is about so much more than the drive.”

The chance to train with Johnston comes with a minimum $50 donation and will take place in Woodcliff Lake, N.J., Nashville, Tenn., Lincoln, Neb., and Los Angeles. Space is limited and the events take place next month, so if you’re interested it would be wise to visit the site soon.
